Welcome to this episode of Jack Chat and another tiny lesson in leadership, straight up.
In this episode, I’d like to talk about…these guys!
You will recognize these as a metaphor for motivation. The idea, of course, is that people are motivated by a craving for reward or approval … and a fear of punishment or disapproval.
While this form of motivation is not irrelevant and is certainly effective in some situations, it’s not the whole story on motivation.
The most enduring form of motivation is SELF motivation. And that is driven by purpose. Here are some self-reflection questions to help yourself and others connect to purpose:
- How does my work serve others?
- What am I learning from my work?
- How does my work enable the things I love or the person I want to become?
Give those questions some thought… and join me again for another chat!
