Meet Courtney Smock

Courtney Smock stands in front of a whiteboard where she wrote a graph featuring a straight line with a valley in the middle. The graph, titled "The Change Experience" reads from left to right "Idea, Decision, Event, Messy Middle, The Climb"

Why Slingshot25?

We founded Slingshot25 out of a belief that things can be better. We have learned a lot over our years working in complex, matrix environments.

Can you explain what you specialize in? Why does this service benefit your customers?

Change management – I have been practicing change for over 20 years. I have experience actually doing the work. I have learned what works and what doesn’t and I think that gives me a perspective and an advantage when teaching others. I have crafted our latest offering,The Change Course, with the best most powerful knowledge, tools, and advice that I have to offer.

What has been your favorite part of starting a company?

Parts? The freedom. The possibility. The partnership.

What challenges have you faced? What have you learned?

The biggest challenge is learning. Learning the “new to me” parts of running a business, learning how to work together in a partnership, and how to build a business. Learning is challenging, but it’s also the best part.

What do you consider to be your greatest strengths and how have they helped you succeed within entrepreneurship?

Strategic is my top strength. For me, it’s like a puzzle. I love all of the pieces and parts, working to fit them together.

What is your favorite business book? What is your favorite for-fun book?

One of my very favorite books is the “The Gifts of Imperfection” by Brene Brown.

If you could have lunch with any celebrity or author who would it be and why?

Ooh, hard choice. Obama, Ellen, or Oprah. All for the same reason. I love to listen to them talk and learn from them.

What class or training has stuck with you the most over your career?

My iPEC coaching certification. Learning to coaching was a transformative experience in my career.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A therapist.

What is the last TV show or movie that you watched? Would you recommend it?

A year ago I’d have told you that I don’t watch much television, but quarantine changed that! I am well-versed in binging shows. I just finished Bridgeton. Turns out, I’ll watch about anything.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

My alarm, but barely. I am not much of a morning person. You’ll find me much more energized in the evenings. I do most of my thinking and writing well past a morning person’s bedtime. I am happy at work when I can make an impact. I love seeing my work changes people and things. For me, it’s all about leaving a dent.

Who we’ve worked with.
